Written literature is one of the most overlooked treasures we have available. It is hard to realize the true value of this material because we are often conditioned to memorize hundreds of pages of academic writing only regurgitate it back onto a scantron listing A-E 100 times over and over. But there is so much more out there to read such as adventures, experiences, lessons, and biographies.
One quote that seems to reappear time and time again from motivational speaker Jim Rohn to Dropbox co-founder Drew Houston is, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Typically this would refer to your inner-circle of friends or colleagues, but can it also apply to role-models not within your social circle? What if you wanted to learn from the visionary Steve Jobs or the oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller? I think through the written literature authored by these idols or those who have written about them can lend to this ‘average.’
Below are books that I have read or plan to read in the future as I continue my journey of learning. Stay tuned for my reviews as I finish these!
